December 19, 1973…Johnny Carson Sparks Toilet Paper Shortage

Carson took a news paper report of possible toilet paper shortages to a whole new level when he made a joke about it in his monologue. Seems his 20 million viewers spread the word and went out and stocked up. For three months, the rush and hording kept store shelves hard to keep full.
