Picture Parade 1…’Bob And Ray, Jane, Laraine And Gilda’, 1979
For some still unknown reason, this spacial ran in place of SNL on March 15, 1979. SNL was in it’s white hot fourth season, but in it’s place that Saturday night, we got this paring of long time stars Bob and Ray with Jane Curtain, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner. Also on the show was a clean shaven, up and comer, Willie Nelson. Enjoy and share! -Bobby Ellerbee
I’ve been a big fan of Bob and Ray for decades and managed to find a VHS tape that had this special. Very Happy to share it on youtube. I left out the Willie Nelson performances because they seemed out of place and interrupted the flow of the show… also because I didn’t want Willie’s attorneys on my case so to speak.. They were both reluctant to do the “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” song but as soon as the audience began laughing they both knew all was well.
Bob’s son Chris and granddaughter Abby each later worked on SNL.

Bob & Ray were so far ahead of their time, they stayed hip for their entire career. …Which can’t be said for most comics outside of their generation. (Like Milton Burle who tried SNL and was embarrassingly out of place.)

As I vaguely recall, Gilda Radner and Laraine Newman had a limited-engagement two-woman Broadway show running at the time. I think it was sort of a promotion for their show, paired with Bob & Ray, who were enjoying a resurgence in their careers at the time.

I watched it when it aired “live”. And I remember Bob and Ray did a version of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?”
Great show with bob and ray doing “do you think I’m sexy!”
