An Oscar Week Favorite…Lewis Horvitz Directing The Awards
Here’s a video several have requested. From the 69th Annual Academy Awards show, here’s the director in the truck at the Shrine Auditorium on March 24, 1997. Gil Cates produced. Enjoy.
Hey, this was shot in the Unitel remote truck! 😉
And one day Brad, you’ll be this good, bald, but good…
I’m here rehearsing for the 86th Academy Awards and I owe it all to Lou for bringing me out to LA in 1997. That was an incredible night!!
Seeing the Unitel truck brings back a lot of memories, too. That was Red, Black was the mirror of that one, but I think Black rolled first. Also, saw a Greene, Crowe & Co. unit as well.
I too worked on the Oscar broadcast for many years. Personally, I preferred Marty Pasetta sitting in the director’s chair. Some of the more memorable and creative shows (including the “Best Original Song” production numbers) took place with Marty at the helm. It probably helped that his background was in musical variety.
I worked on the Oscar broadcast for years. Saw a lot of this first hand. By the way, you forgot to include the “J”. It is always Louis J. Horvitz. Despite the showy manner, a really great guy to work with.
He is also now directing the live broadcasts of American Idol.
