On this day in 2004, NBC anchor Tom Brokaw made he final appearance as anchor on ‘NBC Nightly News’. He began his run on the show in April 1982.
Although he has already coined the phrase “the greatest generation”, he does not use the term when he talk about them with great respect. At the end, Bob Hope sings a short custom version of “Thanks For The Memories”. Thanks Tom! I remember you from your days at WSB in Atlanta. Enjoy and share! -Bobby Ellerbee

He is the co-contributor to Joel Tator’s book on KTLA and the formation of television and in particular Channel 5, the first commercial TV station on the West Coast. You can buy the book on Amazon in January, 2015.
about time!!!
Tom was very kind to his crew. Since I worked at NBC on their News shows, I had the experience of NBC’s slanted/very edited reporting.
Brokaw was fine. Always appreciated the ultra-underrated John Chancellor.
It is lovely… It is good to reflect… I was part of the Great Machine…
If you look at it NBC probably had the most orderly transition out of all the networks during that great 2004-06 transition period where in less than 18 months, we lost one anchor (Peter Jennings) and another was forced out of his chair (Dan Rather).
