Mike Douglas Show, TK10
This shot is from 1963, a couple of years into the show. It was live every weekday for an hour until around October of ’65. That’s when Zsa Zsa Gabor called Morey Amsterdam a “son of a bitch” for interrupting her joke. After that, the program aired on a one-day tape delay basis.
Obviously it was live only in Cleveland…
I grew up in Montana and we watched Mike Douglas on a Salt lake City station. We would see the show about three months after it was taped because the tapes had to be shipped from one market to another market to another market, etc. I think they called that “piggy backing’.
KYW in Cleveland became WKYC and was an NBC O&O. I worked there for vacation relief 2 years in a row.
I watched the Douglas show from the control in Philly. I think the director was Dave Wilson who I later worked for when he was an EP at WTTW.
Channel 3 in Philadelphia was WRCP in 1963.
