NBC Studio 8H: Pre Construction Artist Rendering
In 1950, NBC converted 8H from the world’s largest radio studio to a state of the art television studio. This is a beautifully detailed drawing of the layout. Thanks to William David French for the image.
I visited this studio during an NBC tour a few years ago. My cousin and I stood in the Observation Gallery and watched a taping of the quiz show “Jackpot!”
Don’t forget that Script Girl…
My first memory of 8H was the intro to “Snap Judgment”, a “Password”-like game hosted by Ed McMahon. Johnny Olson opened each show with, “This is backstage at NBC Studio 8H in New York City…”
That “chorus room” looks pretty crowded.Who would have thought the chorus was jammed in the basement like that! >_<
This is a great example of a network “biting the bullet” and acknowledging that this TV thing might have a future.
