One Of A Kind Photo
This is the full complement of equipment associated with the RCA “Walkie Lookie” Vidicon camera. This photo from the 1956 NAB Convention, shows the wireless version with the backpack transmitter on the table. This camera and a few others like this were used by NBC for the ’52 political conventions, but those did not have the wireless capability like the 1956 version. These units were able to operate almost a mile from their base station.
You’re correct, Jodie. My mistake.
It just hit me how small the venue looks for the ’52 NAB convention.
It’s smaller now than I first saw it in the 90s, but that pic sure wasn’t at the LV Convention center.
Come to think of it, the Conv. Ctr. probably didn’t exist back then.
would you believe what’s old is new again? a Arri Alexa with the break-out head feeding back to a backpack carrying the brain, batts & a boxx HD transmitter….
I think I stopped at this booth at CCW in NY yesterday. In this case, 4K refers to its weight and not resolution.
I remember the SNL ‘Russian Mini-Cam’ bit. The camera was the size of a small fridge.
A lot of gear to keep running…
The radar receiving dish made me laugh. That’s one of the most stereotypical looking radar dishes I’ve seen
Makes me think of Al Franken back when he was funny.
and now the wristwatch cam…
Fantastic!
