Pretty Maids All In A Row…
Last month I posted the other four pix from this ABC event at Pebble Beach in the late 60s, but just found this fifth photo I had forgotten about. These are the dozen TK41Cs that Roone Arlidge ordered for ABC in 1966.
RCA had orders for a dozen more from production houses and TV stations that they had been holding till they could get a run of at least 24 and when the ABC order came, the did the last TK41 run.
On the left is the nose of a TK60 used for graphics and in the distance are a dozen Norelco PC60s.
I hag one of those stickers.
Given a choice in 1966 between the bulky/heavier TK-41s and the svelte/lighter PC-60s, I have wondered why ABC opted to purchase the former for use in the field. My guess is that Norelco was unable to fill a large order of PC-60s or -70s to ABC within the network’s timeframe. A significant design difference between the two cameras is that the TK-41 has much electronics and adjustments concentrated at the camera head (lots of knobs!), while most of the electronics and controls of the PC-60/70 are at the CCU.
Nice order for Rank Taylor Hobson V5 lenses too!
