Speaking Of ‘Star Trek’….

On this 48th anniversary of the series debut, here’s an idea of just how wildly popular the show was. Mad Magazine did a parody!

Our friend Dick DeBartolo wrote “Star Blecch” for Mad’s December ’67 issue and here is Shatner and Nimoy reading it on location. Dick’s story was beautifully illustrated by Mort Drucker, and at the link below is a colorized version for you to share and enjoy! – Bobby Ellerbee

The best Star Trek parody that has ever been done has and ever shall be SNL’s “Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise”. John Belushi as Captain Kirk, Chevy Chase as Spock, and Dan Aykroyd as McCoy. That was without a doubt the best SNL-themed Star Trek sketch. Then again, there was that “Love Boat: The Next Generation” when Patrick Stewart hosted, and of course……who can forget Shatner’s “Get a Life” when he hosted.

I still remember one exchange between Captain Kook and Mr. Spook in the Mad parody:
Mr. Spook – “Why, Captain, how could you say that? I don’t believe my ears!”
Captain Kook – “Mr. Spook, I can’t believe your ears, either!”

DeBartolo and Drucker also did a Lost In Space parody the year before called “Loused Up In Space”. The LIS cast spoofed the spoof by imitating the first panel of the satire…

Funniest thing I’ve seen all day, and it’s only 0830. I think I’ll just go back to bed. It doesn’t get any better than this.
