Letterman Roams The Halls During the NABET Strike, 1987

The Poor Bastards Never Had A Chance…The NABET Strike, 1987

As we know, Dave loves to play with the staff and crew, but when the technicians strike rolled around, management had to step in and Letterman pulled all the stops to “play” with them. This should start at the intro to ‘Dave’s Record Collection’ which sets up the piece of Letterman roaming the halls of NBC. Enjoy and share!

AND of course if I might add, the on screen readers and/or talent forgot our support of THEIR strike in 1967. We honored THEIR picket lines but they couldn’t honor OURS!

I remember the strike of 1987 all too well! 19 weeks I believe without a paycheck… When we returned, that was when non-linear became the really big deal… Now we have the new media and the internet… My my how times have changed!!!

What a foolish move made by the Union! Too bad the leaders didn’t understand that many members of NABET made deals to circumvent their contract! How do you think unmanned cameras came into being? For a few $$$ and an upgrade, things were lost. We met the enemy and he is us!
