Here’s Carol Burnett with CBS Newsman Lee Cowan. In the clip linked above, you’ll see his 8 minute visit with her that ran on ‘Sunday Morning’. Nice piece with some interesting shots along the way. Enjoy!
Carol Burnett and company spent Monday thru Wednesday in one of the two rehearsal halls upstairs. The two rehearsal halls are now television studios. The larger of the two studios was built for the Pat Sajak talk show in 1990. The same studio is now used by Craig Ferguson.
Match Game taped 12 shows every other weekend. Gene Rayburn commuted from the east coast.
STUDIO 33 SCHEDULE IN THE 197OS
Mon thru Wed…The Price is Right
– Taped two shows per day
Thurs and Friday…Carol Burnett Show
– Taped on Friday evenings
Saturday and Sunday…Match Game
– Taped six shows each day – Five
for CBS and one for syndication
I think All in the Family was taped next door in Studio 31.
Great piece by Lee Cowan-well done!!!
It’s a great piece. It always amazes me that until the 1990s Stage 33 was used constantly for different shows. One show would be there one day and another the next. During the run of “The Carol Burnett Show”, a few seasons of “All In The Family” were shot on the same stage.
Wonderful memories
