When Was The Last Time You Saw This?
The NAB’s Code Of Good Practice started around 1952 and lasted till the early 80s. I read a lot of it this morning and frankly, I would love to have parts of it back! Specifically the part that limited commercials! The best part of that section limits advertising to 6 minutes per hour in A and AA time. During Christmas and election times, you could go to 8 minutes per hour. With the Code back in place, most of the 800-Sue-Someone spots, the Viagra and big pharma spots and the, ‘but wait, there’s more’ spots we see would be long gone. Ahhh…the good old days!
I still love the black and white sign-off card with the (I think) Indian head in the middle. It meant I was up WAY too late and mom and dad hadn’t caught me watching TV ’til WAY past my bedtime.
is there shows? I think its all reality tv and commericals
BRING IT BACK
Love this. Sharing.
It is painful to watch networks like TV Land with their 5 minute commercial breaks…so I don’t anymore. And how about those animated “lower third” promo ads that take up about half the screen and totally destroy the moment while you are trying to watch a movie?
Stations made a ton of money in those pre-cable days.
…and now. our National Anthem.
sad part is, I work with people who have no clue what that even meant
We would also have that long-lost separation of similar products, especially in the automotive sector.
Now the shows are 8 minutes and the comercials are 52.
I remember waking up early on weekends (in the late 80s & early 90s) to see WTVR sign on in the morning, and this seal was part of their sign on. I was a broadcast nerd even as a child!
Wow. Serious flashback!
ofcom saw this off
