You’ve Probably Never Seen This, And Will Probably Never Again!
Ever seen a newscast with a live announcer? We’ll get ready! Oh…and this is not just any live announcer…it’s Don Pardo!
You’ll see Don at the start, again at 1:18 where he has a rare bit of a stumble and again at 6:57 at the close. For those that saw Jack Cafferty on CNN with Wolf Blitzer for many years and wondered where he came from, here’s your answer…WNBC. Jack has a very characteristic intro to the weather segment with Al Roker in this great clip from 1987. Enjoy and share!
A great NBC voice but seems profoundly hokey and gimicky especially with the RCA mike on a stand on camera.
Thanks for sharing my video, Bobby. I happen to like the music, its by Edd Kalehoff, WNBC was doing some good numbers during this period.
Actually, Cafferty came to New York from Las Vegas. He was for a time, paired with Chuck Scarborough for the 6pm newscast.
That transition music is annoying.
Entertainment reporter Pia Lindstrom is the daughter of Ingird Bergman I believe.
A live announcer was unusual even then. My first job at a TV station was in ’86 and all announce cues were on carts.
I like it better with the Dave interruptions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko8dq6Z3leY#t=5m18s
Stations don’t even have live booth announcers anymore.
Don Pardo set the standard for all of us who love the mic!
First time I’ve ever seen an on screen announcer in a news program. Kind of campy but I like it!
Jack Cafferty. Mr Happy!
I clearly remember Jack Cafferty on WDAF-TV in KC in either 69 or 70. At the time, WDAF was the NBC affiliate.
