World’s Easiest Trivia Question
In this November 1954 photo we see the fist boy owner, Tommy Rettig who played Jeff Miller, and his dog _________.
In ’57 Rettig left and was replaced by Jon Provist as Timmy Martin. The show was the creation of producer Robert Maxwell and animal trainer Rudd Weatherwax and was televised from September 12, 1954, to March 24, 1973. One of the longest running dramatic series on television, the show chalked up seventeen seasons on CBS before entering first-run syndication for its final two seasons. Initially filmed in black and white, the show transitioned to colour during 1965.
Notice the backup dogs in the foreground. 😉
By the way, Campbell’s was the life long sponsor of the TV series.
I think the man on this side of the camera is Robert Maxwell who created and produced the show. He also directed some of the early Superman series episodes starring George Reeves. Interesting that Christopher Reeve would also play superman. No relation.
Rin Tin Tin…
I don’t expect everyone to remember the names Tommy Rettig [Jeff] and Jon Provost [Timmy], seeing as how it’s been over half a century since that particular era of the “Lassie” franchise, the roots of which go all the way back to a 1943 MGM movie entitled “Lassie Come Home”.
Tommys name on the SHOW WAS “JEFF MILLER”
