October 10, 2007…The Beginning Of The End For NBC Burbank
Some nine years ago, NBC’s Brian Williams broke the news.
“Days Of Our Lives”, which airs on NBC is still there, but it’s their production company that rents space in the building and not NBC. Beautiful downtown Burbank will never be the same.

NBCUniversal plans to sell much of its 34-acre site in Burbank, California — the longtime home of “The Tonight Show,” and move operations to Universal Studi…
So glad in April 1994 I got the studio tour and a Tonight Show with Jay Leno taping during a vacation. After that session, got begged to go next door to a smaller studio for Later taping (can’t remember who was host but it wasn’t Costas). One thing I remember is Leno had all new cameras and equipment (might have even had flat-screen confidence monitors on the cameras); then over to the other studio using TK-47. You could tell which side of the building the bread was buttered on!
I’ve lived up the street for 20 years. It’s been odd to see it go from the vibrant place it was to nothing. But the Universal plans blew up in their face too, correct? Does NBC do anything there, or did they just sell the Conan Tonight Show space, and focus on New York?
the burbank lot is a place I do not care to ever visit again, having worked there for years and seeing what has been done there.
They had to rent space for Jay Leno’s prime time show. The set got some changes after he got the Tonight Show back. I still wish Jimmy Fallon had kept it in Burbank. Or Seth Meyers should have gone West.
Because of the announcement, I made sure to take my vacation in 2008 to finally visit NBC Burbank. It was an historic facility.
