This a good story on how, where and when the sets for SNL are built each week, BUT…make sure to click on the slide show button at the bottom of the page to see the 16 pictures. The work they do on such short notice is just amazing! Enjoy and share! -Bobby Ellerbee

Behind the scenes with the rapid-fire builders.
Fascinating article. A few years ago, I read “Live From New York” and could only imagine how hard it is to pull this off every week. Didn’t even think about how it’s possible to reuse set pieces.
Last week I was thinking that they do some extravagant sets and costumes for their stuff. Even the videos are exceptional. That’s a ton of work.
Adding to the challenge: I think I remember reading that because all the sets are built off-site, they must be broken down small enough to bring up to Studio 8H in the elevator.
IT is INSANE..I worked at the NBC SNL scene shop for one season back in the mid 80’s….60 or so carpenters and scenic painters working like maniacs from early Wednesday morning thru Saturday morning…always got the scenery finished on-time..collapsed for at leased 2 days after…my hats off to the guys and gals who do it now…I’m sure it’s just a crazy as it has always has been!!!!
