The One And ONLY…Mel Blanc
Often called “The Man Of 1000 Voices”, here Mel admits to David Letterman that he really only has about 400, which by any measure is still stunning. This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen Mel do…they have a lot of fun and many of your favorite characters will show up here! Enjoy and share! – Bobby Ellerbee

In 1971, my friend and I produced a documentary on the 50th Anniversary of Radio for our radio class at LA CITY COLLEGE. We requested and were granted an interview with Mel Blanc at his offices at Crossroads of the World. What an outstanding and exciting pleasure that was. And, we both received A’s and an award for the most outstanding documentary for the class.
My former employer…I was Mel’s personal recording engineer. I’m writing the book now about my unforgettable times of working with him and his son Noel. News of the book being released in Kindle and audiobook form will be announced on my website, voiceoverisland.com. Mel continues to be viewed as the greatest voice artist who ever lived…the Godfather of the cartoon voice world, as he was not just the greatest talent, but also the one who made what he did into a legitimate profession. And his son is now living the good life at his father’s vacation home at Big Bear Lake in California. Thanks for saluting this brilliant man, who changed my life for the better over 40 years ago!
Mel Blanc was actually the third voice of Elmer Fudd. The voice was originated and done for years by Arthur Q. Bryan. When he died, Hal Smith (Otis Campbell on the “Andy Griffith Show”) did it for a few years. I think Mel started doing it in the late ’50s or early “60s.
Fun fact : Mel has à son called Noël… Noel Blanc. Witch in french trully means ” White Christmas” !
Makes me want to track down a copy of Bugs Bunny Superstar on Laserdisc…….even though it showcases Bob Clampett’s work on the Looney Tunes series, there is some good behind-the-scenes of Blanc doing all those voices.
