Time To ‘Cowboy’ Up…Remember These Greats?
Left to right, Clint Walker ‘Cheyenne’, James Arnes ‘Gunsmoke’, Richard Boone ‘Have Gun Will Travel’, Robert Horton ‘Wagon Train’, James Garner ‘Maverick’ and John Payne ‘Restless Gun’.
What a great Hollywood publicity photo. So dramatic.
Two years ago, while laid up with a bad back, I re-watched the entire series run of Cheyenne (1955-1963) – from pilot to finale. Much of it was shot outdoors on location – which made it more interesting. It was addicting.
Actor Clint Walker is still alive and living with his wife in Nevada City, CA, near Sacramento and makes annual appearances at cowboy festivals in The West.
I always wanted to meet Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Fess Parker, James Garner and Walker.
Back in the 80’s I received an assignment to fly to LA and photograph Autry. But the morning of my flight, he had a stroke, and I never got to photograph him.
They left out “Sugar Foot” Will Hutchins, “The Rifleman” Chuck Connors, “Bronco Lane” Ty Hardin, “Lawman” John Russell, “Yancey Derringer” Jock Mahoney and the younger Maverick brother, Jack Kelly.
I think Lucas McCain could’ve dusted them all, lol.
Thank you!
