Today…NBC’s Last Live Show Airs From Burbank
I got this note last night from our friend Bob Meza, who’s worked for at NBC Burbank for nearly 40 years.
“Bobby: Just so you know, tomorrow, June 14, NBC Burbank will broadcast it’s last live show. Telemundo will move over to Universal starting Sunday. Days Of Our Lives is still on the lot, but it is not an NBC owned show. Access Hollywood will also remain on the lot in Studio 1 probably for another year. We will be pulling equipment out next week. Bob”
The complex is now known as The Burbank Studios and below is an aerial view of the famous 35 acre property with landmark tags.
I would like to move my TV truck company there!
The should’ve changed the name back to Color City! Or maybe make it current and call it 4K City!
Spent 20 years of my life there. ….what wonderful people. …those were great days….
I worked there for 26 years. NBC Promos moved to Universal two years ago. My, how time flies when you work with amazing people.
Too sad to think about it, many, many, many happy memories.
Ouch! That’s gonna leave a mark!
This is the best indication I made the correct move to move on in my life and place all my passion and hard work into a creative, fulfilling job!
I believe (for the time being) part of the sales contract stated it would remain a “broadcast facility”
Actually, we should all hope that live, filmed or recorded entertainment continues to be produced there. It would be a shame if the space was converted to low paying retail, like the old Lockheed factory in Burbank was.
Clarifying “Live Show”. Though indeed all “Live News” operation is gone. Access Hollywood “Live” is still “Live” Monday – Friday. Until 2015…? No real date has been announced.
So,by next year when Access Hollywood moves out,Days of our Lives(a Sony owned show) will be the only NBC series still produced at the Burbank Studios(in studios 2 & 4)
Also,Studio 11 (most recently home of The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno) was built 30 years ago for the soap Santa Barbara(next month would have been its 30th anniversary)
Looking back when the NBC Burbank lot was very new: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us2flcoPut0
I thought Telemundo was already in their new home? I was working there when they made the move from Glendale to NBC Burbank…it was an amazing experience walking those grounds!
Where on this map is the ramp to the Shlossen cutoff?
I remember such a great tour they had.. and I still have my NBC Burbank Bumpersticker and patch from The Shop!
So what does this mean , did NBC sell it’s Burbank Facility ???
Worked there off and on in the early 70’s.
Hard to believe but at one time NBC meant quality!!!
