Just For Fun…Bob Newhart Roasts Don Rickles

It’s hard to believe that Don Rickles had any friends, but in real life, he and Newhart were indeed dear friends and, with their wives took many trips abroad. This is funny! Enjoy and share.

Kermit Lives In A Drawer & ‘The Muppets’ Was Shot In London… Who knew? I was quite surprised to find out that ‘The Muppet Show’ that aired here in the US from September 1976 till March 1981, aired in the UK at the same time and was shot there too. After two pilot episodes produced […]

KTLA: First In The West Originally owned by Paramount Pictures subsidiary Television Productions, Inc., and located on the Paramount Studios lot, the station was licensed by the Federal Communications Commission in 1939 as experimental station W6XYZ, on channel 4, but did not go on the air until September 1942. Early Dumont Cameras

Early Dumont Cameras: Configuration 2 Unlike the RCA cameras, the Dumont Iconoscope cameras had electronic viewfinders which were side mounted. October 21, 1954…James Bond Moves From Page To TV Screens On this day in 1954, Barry Nelson became the first actor to play James Bond. Before this, 007 had only been a literary character in the novels written by Ian Fleming. The event was a one hour, live presentation of “Casino Royale” on “Climax”; a […]

The men and women who shaped American television —producers, directors, engineers, studio crews, and the families of industry legends shared their stories, photos, documents, and memories with me. Many told me the same thing, even the historians for the networks:

“You’re preserving the only institutional knowledge we have left.”

Eyes Of A Generation has always been a collection of history, but now — it has, by default, become a home for the institutional memory of ABC, NBC, and CBS.

In the same way networks kept the videotapes tapes but erased the talent, skill, craftsmanship and even revenue those recorded shows represented…they have lost their histories too!

This is television’s story — created by the people who shaped it and safeguarded here, for those who come after.
