‘The Price Is Right’…Come On Down!
Late last year, we discovered that the cameras in CBS Television City Studio 33 are now wireless…no more cables there. An interesting experiment that seems to be working. This photo, sent by our friend David Mackey, shows Drew Carey’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ professional dance partner Cheryl Burke as a guest model on the show. Notice the great extra program monitor and the blocking sheets on the camera. On each side are blocking sheets from a January 2001 edition of the show.
Announcing Price with Barker and for Roger was the most incredible experience of my 25 years in TV. Yes, especially during the Barker years, the backstage action was choreographed within inches and seconds because the show almost never stopped tape. And it was and extra rush knowing we were “live” and any errors I made would not be fixed.
The magic is finalized in the mornings on tape days around the green room table where Producers, Director, announcer, models, wardrobe and production staff review those schematic drawings for each act, coordinating everybody’s contribution. Loose ends were tied up in the rehearsals where all games, set pieces and props were moved and struck.
It was damned exciting to work with pros, and that show had many on stage and backstage. I’ll be forever grateful to Roger, Kathy Greco, and the great folks at Price.
