The animation technique was inspired by the “Monty Python” use of cut outs, and this was created in 1992 by Tray Parker and Matt Stone, which was the year they met in a University of Colorado film class.
The first two pilots used real construction paper cut outs and stop motion. Later, their animation software would take over but keep the cutout effect. If you want to know how it all started, just watch this!Â
Congratulations to Tray and Matt on their success! As a cast member on “Squidbillies”, with our 10th season airing now on Adult Swim, I know what a milestone 20 years on the air is to you guys. Kudos! -Bobby Ellerbee
The fact that they create the shows one week before air is astounding and unheard of in the animation biz. It makes their topics very current and therefore cutting edge. Simpson episodes take 6 months complete.
Stan is named as an homage to their professor, avant grade filmmaker Stan Brakhage.
That makes this salisbury steak day, children . . . . 😉
