Good Evening Vietnam!
An RCA TK60 shoots the control room of American Forces Vietnam, or AFVN, television in Saigon in 1972 for a segment in the evening news cast. Did you know the navy had TK60s on their aircraft carriers to show the flight deck to the controllers on the bridge?
Big cameras… My first cameras were Noreleco PC70s at WFRV TV … the cameras Lawrence Welk used at the time… Just amazing where technology has gone…seems to be changing hourly!
When it came time to re-enlist in the Navy in 1971 I was offered a deal to be stationed on a carrier in the television station on board if I would re-enlist for 4 years. Turned it down because I was ready to be a civilian again.
I ran TV stations in the Navy. My first ship we only had one channel, but on the aircraft carrier USS AMERICA, I had three – in color!
