‘The Pontiac Star Parade’ 1959
Here’s Gene Kelly in the dress rehearsal at NBC Burbank. Below you can see a clip from the show that gives you a good look at one of the huge studios and some pretty fancy crane camera work at the start. The cameras were RCA TK41s.
It is either studio 2 or 3. DD is likely right, given the elephant doors artwork.
It looks like Studio 2 to me.
…here’s what amazes me ! ..the exceptional talent of Gene Kelly, AND his guests ! ..the wonderful, extremely tight sounding orchestra ! ..and the images done by a 1950’s era color camera ! ! ! ..thanks for posting this ! ! ..also, love seeing the color NBC chimes logo on the 41 ! !
That Pontiac Star Parade excerpt I uploaded on my oldtvhistory channel came from NBC’s 50th Anniversary special from 1976, I got a DVD copy of it from a guy who recorded it back then on Betamax, there’s quite a number of rare 50s/60s colour TV excerpts in the special 🙂 . I wish I could somehow get a hold of the whole show, would be good to see it in its entirety 🙂
