Classic! ABC Golf Promo…Circa 1968

Classic! ABC Golf Promo…Circa 1968

Keep your eyes peeled here…there is a lot of interesting equipment passing by. We’ll see everything from RCA TK41a and TK60s to Norelcos, GE PE350s and the rare Ampex portable. There’s also some interesting tape and delay equipment here and I hope some of you can call that out. Not sure of the date, but given the cameras, I think this is from the late ’60s. Enjoy and share! -Bobby Ellerbee

I think one of the trucks was one of my gfx trucks from when I was doing college football

Reminds me of a time I shot an ABC golf promo in the 80’s with a golfer who will remain nameless. We were at Bay Hill south of Orlando, and the golfer’s lines kept getting polluted by airplanes taking off from nearby MCO. Finally in frustration he throws a ball down, takes a vicious slap at it with a 7-iron….

…and 170 yards later: hole in one.

    I wasn’t rolling.

I asked him how many holes-in-one he had shot. He said “Six, but this one doesn’t count.”

The ball had been hit six inches in front of the tee marker.

    Interesting day!

You could not pay me enough to work that camera platform suspended under the crane. Well, maybe… Ahhh, Nope!

Ampex 100 slo mo that recorded 30 secs. Now we have EVS that has hard drives that records 4 angles for 30 hours.

Thanks for the memories. I remember setting up and doing Parab audio then years later doing video replays on several golf remotes with the late Chuck Howard producing.

Some of this is from Pebble Beach, but I think the GE camera shots may be from Houston.
